This blog is dying a slow death.

May 24, 2013

This blog is dying and I’m not quite sure what to do.
Maybe blogging itself is past its due date and noone has time to read.
Maybe I jumped on the ship too late.

Since my last post went up yesterday, I’ve only had 36 views on my site and of those, only 8 people – on the whole planet – read that last post, 24 hrs after putting it up.

I am so bummed.

The most depressing part is that most of those views came from people (men) searching for porn.

When a person clicks onto my blog, I receive statistics such as, what country they’re from and what their search term was.Β In the last seven days, these have been the most common type of search engine terms that have been used to get to my blog:

12 year old sluts
little teen boys speedos cock
naked preteen girls vaginas
highschool breeding slut pic
twelve year old sluts
facebook twelvies
16 year old sluts
12 facebook sluts
14 year old sluts
twelve year old slut memes
15 year old sluts
lfl pussy (lfl is Lingerie Football League)
lfl porno
12 yr old slut
12 year old looking slutty
12 year slut

So, over the last few months, the majority of people who have clicked on my blog are looking for porn – not reading my commentary of the issues that are affecting me (us).

It would be an understatement to say that this has disheartened me a great deal.

Where are my sisters? Where are the good men?

I feel like a batty lady, talking to myself.

This is not to make anyone feel guilty. Truly.
It is what it is and everyone’s lives are busy. I know. Believe me!

Sometimes the topics are heavy and one doesn’t always need to read about the bad stuff in the world. I understand.

It’s just a colossal bummer that everything I’ve been writing about lately, seems to have all become a bit ineffectual.

I was hoping to be a voice in some of this turmoil – but my statistics seem to be proving that the machine of porn is an out-of-control beast, devouring everything in its path – and my voice is a mere teeny squeak.

Oh well, better take some of my own medicine and advice – take a deep breath and soldier on.

And to the few who keep reading – thank you. So much.

Deep breath.

I read every new post and always have a think about the issues you raise. I should take the time to comment more often. I think that you go to great effort and I appreciate what you have to say. We need feminists to keep on blogging and I’m glad you’ve decided to keep at it.
That list of search terms is utterly depressing, and very typical from what I have read. It is obvious that they are targeting the very young – people’s young daughters in fact, like mine!

There has been so much evidence of the hatred that too many men have for women in the news lately, and I wonder about the statistics. How many men rape, beat and abuse women and children, and watch porn etc Way more than many would want to guess I suspect. It is very disheartening.

Watching 4 Corners on Monday and listening to the arguments and concerns put forward against the growing betting culture in sport I was reminded of those arguments that women make about porn and porn culture. They are essentially the same. Sadly because it is about sport and has men speaking out, I think there will be a greater chance of success in defending good sport viewing than there will be for those advocating against violence and pornography for the wellbeing of women and children. It’s not the zombies we have to fear….

Hahahahaha! Yes, it’s not the zombies we have to fear – give me a zombie any day!
I love and truly appreciate your support, Rose.
I don’t want anyone to feel pressure to comment – it was more that the number of people actually clicking onto the blog to read it had dropped dramatically over the last few months and yesterday I had a bit of a low moment.
But today was a brand new day and I’ve received wonderful support – so it’s all good.
I’m all fired up and will continue to write, regardless of how many are reading. Even if there’s one, it’s a blessing.
Thank you for your words of encouragement, Rose.

Hello, I think your blog is wonderful. You make insightful statements about difficult issues and it is really a joy to read; I find it truly inspirational. Perhaps you could branch out into vlogging (video blogging) on YouTube, this will help you reach a wider audience, as well as a younger one (80% of YouTube viewers are females between the ages of 12 to 21)

Thank you for all the hard work you’re doing,
    Emma

Wow. Thank you Emma! It’s wonderful to read your words of encouragement.
I must explain that I used to have OKish stats, that have nose-dived over that last few months; so that was what I was querying with the last post.
I feel a little embarrassed now that I’ve received so much positive support. πŸ™‚
YouTube may be an option – not sure if the young ones want to see my old mug on a screen – hahaha!
Thanks heaps for you comment. πŸ˜€ x

Being a glass half full kinda person I think that while having only 36 people read your blog may be disheartening but of those 36 people if only one or two changed their mind to reframe women and girls in a positive manner – you’re a winner. I read a quote a long time ago that went along the lines of “be the change you want to see in the world”. You are being that change, your courage to stand by your beliefs and to educate is inspiring. Hang in there. I know that I’ll be waiting for your next words of wisdom and will be sharing them with anyone who’ll listen

I feel a little embarrassed about my last post, Anne-Mary – it was just that of those 36 about 20 were porn searchers and I was feeling like my audience was disappearing. It was there a few months ago and then it just diminished.
I really am more of a ‘half-glass full’ kind of girl and am truly grateful for the readers I have.
Thank you for that wonderful quote. I was never going to quit – it wouldn’t feel right – it was just a low moment.
Fired up, with all this encouragement!
      Thanks again.

Just a note to tell you how much I like your blog.
It really is like you put in clear words what I feel (sometimes without knowing why) and I really need it to clarify my mind.
    Keep up the good job.
Oh , and I do cry , sometimes when I feel powerless 😦 , and during films ( damn empathy).
    Hope to read you soon.

That is so touching and humbling. I won’t doubt any more but I’m glad I called out.
Thank youuu. It means a lot. πŸ˜€

You know what they say? Those your are meant, will find you. I think this is the same thing. Don’t get discouraged because I think on WP, so much of the time it’s about people coming to your profile to get a rise or so they can get a visit back. People rarely launch into material beyond their own expressions because this is essentially very narcissistic times. Everyone is focused on their immediate satisfaction.

So don’t get discouraged, because out of all those guys who are clicking over for porn, there will be someone clicking over for the right reasons. And they will stick, believe me.

I love specialized blogs like this because people can go in…the more commercialized ones, can only go so far half the time.

But, your membership will build in true followers, over time. I just think you need a lil’ patience. If you were saying stuff of less importance, you’d have a billion followers but failing to move anything forward… but you’re not that. Thank-God!

Thank you!! I’ve already expressed my humbled stance now that I’ve received such beautiful encouragement.
Stats are still down, but I’m not caring one bit. Seriously.
I was never going to give up, but just needed to know that it was more than men looking for porn, clicking through to my blog.
I know my demographic are either women who are exhausted from life or teens/young women who have better things to do! Hahaha! ;), so there are going to be dry spells.
Plus a lot of the topics are heavy – not light reading by any means – so I completely understand.
Even I find it hard to find the time to write my own posts, lets alone read others.
Thank you so much for your support – it means the world.

        I’m: http://archaicsugar.wordpress.com/about/

I guess my point is that, in this day and age (and generation) we are becoming further and further removed from one another as seperate circles or entities, because every one is increasingly involved in consuming their own lives, while using media so much to touch base with the world beyond our doors, profiles, notebooks.

Problem is there is so much that cannot be grasped that way, and we increasingly are more and more self involved. It’s a blogsphere — and alot of people don’t want to read. I go to other profiles all the time (whoever strikes my interest) where you can tell people are visiting and clicking like without reading the posts. You know, there is just some stuff that you cannot refrain from responding to!! LOL.

Anyway, through all that – little by little the segment of society that takes the time (not just on the net but off it) will find you. Because in my opinion, that’s a personality type that survives the intoxication of self reflection. These are the types who are interactive with everything… and a following of them over time will yield great discussion…probably action from those discussion. But they’re not common, unfortunately. So….little by little…they’ll get here I know it.

Nooo problem. I absolutely love the discourse here. So you got me! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It happens. Nowadays most blogs have to join a crowded network in order to receive the kind of traffic blogs used to get on their own six or seven years ago.

    • questionsforwomen said

Yeah, tell me about it! Hahaha!
It’s all good – things have improved a little. I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing and enjoy the ride with whoever wants to join me.
      Thanks for stopping by. πŸ™‚
