Am I on the right track?

February 21, 2012

Howdy all.

It’s been a few days since I last posted…where I used the scary word, ‘feminist’ in the title.

I was really hoping that this post would stir some reactions – anything really; a smiley face or a brief sentence telling me I’m off my rocker! But alas, it was not meant to be. For three days, I began to entertain serious doubt about what I was doing – was anyone reading?

On the fourth day, today, I got a comment – which brightened my somewhat gloomy disposition a lot. *Some hope*

I’m very new to all this, so it’s probably just due to the fact that I’m a newbie and that people don’t catch on to blogs until later – if they ever do.

But I have to say that I thought I would get more comments – albeit small ones – about the issues I’ve been raising.

Question #18: Are women afraid to voice their thoughts, in case someone may judge?

I understand the teeny prick of anxiety that comes with ‘putting things out there’ – believe me. Even some of the people I know are strangely silent about saying anything to me.

And that’s OK. Really. It’s just that I’m not sure what my fellow sisters are thinking about stuff going on in the world today, and more importantly, if they’re happy with the way things are at the moment – well, from my small perspective, anyhow. *shrug*

I truly believe we have incredible, intelligent, compassionate and inspirational qualities – which emanates a strength that can bring change. But only when we start to use our voice.

I’m willing to admit, though, that maybe it’s MY voice that’s not quite reaching you all the way I’d hoped – but hey, there’s nothing much I can do about that; so I shall continue onwards and upwards!

So, is ‘feminist’ a scary word? I don’t think so – just a wonderful sisterhood – who laugh, love and hold the world together, when they can.

With lots of love to you all. x

Sometimes the tag of “feminist” can be an attacking word to men, i think that feminism is seen as exclusive to women’s only interests and that is why nearly half of the population “tunes out” or gets defensive when it is mentioned.

Thanks Adam – I think this needs further discussion – in my next posting perchance *wink*. I know I’m asking questions to women, but it really is for everyone. I think there are a lot of guys who agree that things are a bit out of wack. GROUP HUG! x

Sorry, it’s been awhile since I have been able to visit. I usually don’t get to read until Thursdays and seem to keep missing yours. Adam has an interesting point. There are some “feminist” sites that are all about hating men. Anger. Anger. And then some more anger. I tried talking on one of their blogs, but they couldn’t seem to understand where I was coming from. My own pet project is to reconstruct feminism because the “angry” crowd is bringing all women down, and I think, like Adam said, it’s freaking the men out. Women are so beautiful; it is a shame when they abuse or hide their own interior gifts that were meant for sharing and helping others. I am going to read your other posts. God bless, sister.

Don’t apologise! Thank you so much for your support! I hope I don’t sound angry when I write – it’s more frustration at how out of control things are getting – reflecting the male ‘stereotyope’ in everything we see. But I certainly don’t think all men are the same – as I don’t think women are all the same. SO many women perpetuate our stereotype – so it’s going to be a long slog to shake such entrenched conditioning. *still very hopeful* 🙂

You don’t sound angry. Your articles sound like they are coming from a very practical woman who is working to find a peaceful way for women to be able to start helping with some of the world’s problems. I think you are doing a wonderful job, in fact.

Hi! I really don’t think you should be disheartened at all. Looking at your blog stats, you’ve received 1639 hits since you began, which is an incredible reach.
The internet is a massive place, with tons of material competing for our time and attention. I write my own feminist blog and follow many others (including yours =) ) but I don’t always get the time to read or comment as much as I would like.
I or you alone may not be able to revolutionise society with our thoughts and blogs alone, but as part of the feminist blogosphere, we have an extremely powerful voice that *can* change people’s opinions.
Keep doing what you’re doing, you have my support!

Wow. Thanks you so much for your kind words. You’re right – I forget how massively, HUGE the internet is! I feel a bit silly *smile*
      I enjoy your blog too!
